  • On the hillside overlooking Lake Tenkiller

Perched high in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, the Retreat at Running Springs is a meticulously remodeled (2022) hillside cabin offering a sanctuary of modern luxury and rugged natural beauty. Overlooking the sparkling waters of Lake Tenkiller, this bright blue haven provides a front-row seat to the best of Oklahoma’s landscape: vibrant valley sunsets, wandering woodland deer, and the gentle hum of fishing boats through the trees.

The heart of the property is its 1,000-square-foot, three-level deck. Renovated with "barefoot-friendly" cool grey surfacing, it serves as an outdoor living complex. The top level provides panoramic views of the valley and Lake Tenkiller. On the main level enjoy the outdoor dining table and 6 Adironadack chairs surrounding the fire pit or set up the outdoor movie projector for a late night show. There is even a dedicated game zone for Cornhole. The deck has soft solar lighting to ensure safety for kids and pets (thanks to secure trellis fencing) without obscuring the brilliant starlit sky.

Entering the home you are greeted with a massive sectional (seating 10-12) which is centered around a 75” Smart TV. There is also a curated game cabinet with something for all ages.

The stocked kichen features green cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, and a 10-foot dining table. Whether you’re brewing a French Press or prepping a holiday feast, the kitchen is fully stocked with high-end tools, from a blender to roasting sticks.

The main floor primary bedroom feels like a sanctuary featuring a king hybrid mattress, 400-thread-count linens, a dedicated workspace, and an ensuite bath with a double vanity and bench-equipped walk-in shower.

The upper level is designed for both productivity and play. The loft is cozy reading nook with a chaise sofa and coffee table for games, taking advantage of the home’s signature sky-high views.

The second floor queen guest room is outfitted with memory foam mattress, velvet blackout curtains, and desk, making it an ideal remote work retreat.

The Bunk/Play Room is dream for families, featuring four twin beds (expandable to twin-over-king), a 55” TV, and drawers of classic wooden toys. The closet in this room is stocked with a Pack N Play, toddler cots and extra bedding.

All the three full bathrooms are stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion cotton balls, q-tips and makeup cloths.
135+ Mbps Fiber internet should you need to do any work while on vacation.
Equipped with smart thermostats and voice-capable speakers for personalized climate and mood control.

We love to host families and pets so we try to make it a bit easier for you to travel by providing a large dog crate and a queen-size air mattress for extra flexibility.

From the steep, winding drive to the quiet rustle of the woods, the Retreat at Running Springs is more than a house, it’s a curated experience designed for large family gatherings, small weddings, or a peaceful escape to the Retreat at Running Spings.

Unique Features

What sets the Retreat at Running Springs apart isn’t just its recent 2022 renovation; it’s the thoughtful integration of high-end utility with the rugged charm of Lake Tenkiller. From its "bright blue" ridge-top profile to the smart-home integration, every detail is designed to elevate the traditional cabin experience.

The property is anchored by a massive 1,000-square-foot, three-level deck. Unlike traditional wood decks, this surface is finished in a "barefoot-friendly" cool grey, ensuring comfort during scorching Oklahoma summers.

The deck utilizes trellis fencing, specifically chosen to provide a secure environment for kids and dogs without obstructing the panoramic valley views.

The approach is an experience in itself—a steep, paved climb into the foothills that opens into a private wooded gravel driveway, offering immediate glimpses of the sparkling inlet through the trees.

The main living area features a massive sofa with a floating ottoman, creating a lounge space comparable to a full-size bed—perfect for morning coffee with endless views through two-story windows.

Unlike many rural escapes, the Retreat offers 135+ mbps Fiber internet, supporting seamless remote work and multi-device streaming.

The Bunk Room is a guest favorite; the twin bunk beds feature pull-out mattresses that can convert into two twin-over-king configurations, comfortably sleeping six.

All three bathrooms feature Speakman high-pressure fixtures (2.5 GPM) with jetstream and rainshower setting. We also provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion and other toliteris.

The kitchen is stocked with ground coffee, tea, sugar and creamer that make getting your day started a bit easier.

The game cabinet in the main living area is full of games and activties for guest of all ages, both indoor and outdoor activites.

Things To Do

Burnt Cabin Marian and Sizemore Landing are less than a 15 minute drive from the property making it easy to access Lake Tenkiller.
Lake Tenkiller is known for its clear water, making it a favorite for boating, fishing, swimming and scuba diving. Nearby marinas offer boat rentals, slips and fuel. In summer months you can explore the lake’s many coves by kayak or stand‑up paddleboard, or simply swim from one of several designated beaches.

When you’re ready for a change of pace, head to Cherokee Landing State Park or Tenkiller State Park for hiking trails, picnic areas and wildlife viewing. The area is rich in history and culture—visit the Cherokee Heritage Center in nearby Tahlequah to learn about Cherokee history and see the recreated 18th‑century village. A short drive north brings you to the historic town of Tahlequah, home to art galleries, shops and local restaurants.

Families will appreciate nearby attractions such as Elephant Rock Nature Park, where you can hike among unique rock formations, or the Jolliff Ridge Public Use Area with its boat ramps and walking paths. For dining, try local favorites like the Deck at Cookson Village overlooking the lake, or head to one of several waterfront restaurants for live music and catfish dinners. After exploring, return to the retreat to play a round of pool or unwind on the patio under the stars.

Reviews

We had a wonderful time! We had 4 adults, 2 kids and 2 pups and everyone had plenty of space! Loved the views and large dining and living area. Downstairs suite is huge and lovely and the upstairs bunks were a huge hit! Showers felt like they had endless hot water and after a day at the lake no one ran out of hot water during their shower! I can imagine that the views are even more breathtaking as the trees change in the coming weeks. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. - Sarah, Sept 2025
Words can’t describe just how beautiful this home and especially the view is. I absolutely loved staying here and will definitely be back! Ilea, October 2025
